Overall goal: to inform and inspire the artists on the team, get as much junk out of their way as possible, encourage their involvement and participation in a comfortable yet highly charged collaborative atmosphere.

Keep it fun, keep it moving and looking good.


Pre-Production

Work with Producer, Game designer and Lead engineer to clarify art goals and schedule

Establish art style guides for objects, characters, environments, UI, animation, and effects, with experiments as necessary

Present art to upper management at project review meetings

Determine art staff needs and job descriptions

Work with graphics engineers to determine specific art goals with an understanding of the graphics capabilities of the various platforms

Work with engineers and technical art lead to determine the best available art pipeline

Determine design goals for specific game shaders

Reviewe art portfolios and interview artist candidates, recommend which artists to hire

Determine art content variations for different platforms

Make some content myself so I understood what is required and how complicated it is to do

Supervise art prototypes

Present art at team meetings


Production

Meet with Art leads, Character, Environment and Animation regularly to determine what they needed to keep things moving

Reinterprete goals and schedule as necessary

Visit and guide artists at their desks between official revues

Present art at company-wide graphic conferences

Supervise presentations for and attend focus groups

Determine lighting design, the system required for the game and do all of the tuning

Help determine and produce assets for marketing

Write and present the concept(s) for intro videos and game ending videos, supervise their production

Review all art content for the game including bug reviews in the final weeks

Alway deliver all the art on time and to the highest standard possible.
